MCA Camp Kenan staff members are carefully selected and highly trained to provide a safe and fun camp experience for all participants. They are chosen for their enthusiasm and ability to be a positive role model for children. All staff and employees of YMCA Camp Kenan voluntarily submit to thorough background and reference checks before becoming employed and are trained extensively before camp begins.

Many of our staff members have grown up at Camp Kenan. In fact, most staff members have at least 4 years of experience as campers before participating in leadership programs and eventually becoming staff members. We have an extremely high staff retention rate, over 85% in the past three camping seasons.

All staff are chosen for their enthusiasm and ability to be a positive role model for your child. All staff are trained extensively before camp begins and they participate in workshops throughout the summer. These workshops include; successful methods in conflict resolution, understanding developmental stages of children, the importance of group dynamics and teambuilding. Program area leaders also participate in comprehensive certification classes before camp begins.
